Managers Update 10/17/18
Waterfowl abundance
Mallard, Gadwall, Ring-neck’s and Redhead numbers increased compared to last week’s count.
Waterfowl harvest
478 hunters harvested 823 ducks and 126 geese.
Hunting conditions
The conditions in our cropped zones are excellent.
Zones 1-3 Corn cover is excellent (8-9 feet tall); buckwheat, barley and millet plots produced above average yields.
Zones 9-32 Corn cover is excellent (8-9 feet tall); buckwheat, barley and moist soil plots produced excellent duck food.
Zone 45-56 Corn cover is excellent (8-9 feet tall); buckwheat, barley and moist soil plots produced excellent duck food
Zones 58-69 Corn cover is excellent (8-9 feet tall); buckwheat, barley and millet plots produced above average yields.
Marshes
Zone 4-7 and 39-44 currently have 24 to 36 inches of water. Zone 8 is being flooded slowly to allow waterfowl to utilize the abundant moist soil plants that have been growing throughout the summer. Water level are currently 4-8 inches.
The E. and W. Refuge is currently at it desired flooding depth for puddle ducks.
